Little Dribblers Clinic: This is a program for Pk-1st graders. This is a one-hour clinic that runs for five weeks at Lincoln Elementary School. We will introduce your child to the game of basketball by working on the fundamentals. Rotating through stations or working in small groups will allow your child to learn how to dribble, pass, and shoot in a fun stress-free environment, there will not be any games at this level. (First graders may choose Little Dribblers Clinic OR 1st/2nd Grade Basketball)
1st/2nd Grade Basketball: First and second graders who are ready to put their skills into play will have the opportunity to play modified games after spending a little time refreshing their form on Saturday mornings at Lincoln Elementary School. During the first two Saturdays of the season all 1st/2nd grade teams will work together reviewing the basics of dribbling, passing, shooting, good sportsmanship and being part of a team. In week three, we will start modified games on a half court with a height adjusted goal. These games will be officiated by the coaches so that each call can be made into a teaching moment, no score will be kept in these games.
3rd/4th Grade Basketball: Third and fourth graders will play games on Saturdays for five weeks at Lincoln Elementary School. They will play on a half court with a height adjusted goal, giving them a chance to continue improving their form and honing their skills. Coaches and Rec staff will officiate the games together. This will give coaches and players an opportunity to learn from each call made during the game. This is a step into competitive play, score will be kept. At this level, it is important to realize the value of being on a team verses the amount of playing time each participant receives. It is expected that every player will attend practice and games and give full effort while demonstrating good sportsmanship.
5th/6th Grade Basketball: Fifth and sixth graders will play games on Saturdays at Lincoln Jr/Sr High School. These games will be played full court with regulation height goals. The first four weeks of the season will be scheduled games, finishing the fifth week with a tournament. These games will be officiated by adult referees. Everyone on the team is expected to come to practice and games prepared to play. This level of play is intended to prepare participants for higher level games, coaches will make judgement calls regarding playing time based on: participation, effort given, sportsmanship, attitude, skill, and what is best for the team as a whole.
